MARCH 13, 2009,
MINUTES FROM NORTHEAST OHIO ARABIAN HORSE
ASSOCIATION
Submitted by
Diane Jones, Corresponding Secretary
The meeting was
called to order about 7:15 PM by Judith
Demshar with eleven members present at
Freedom Farm in Ravenna, Ohio. This was the
first full weekend after the return of
Daylight Savings Time and the extra light
and warmth of this nice March day made us
sense the nearness of spring--at last! Judy
Von Duyke made a motion to accept the
Secretary's minutes as read. Lorraine
Linton Seconded the motion, which passed by
voice vote. Likewise, the Treasurer's Report
was read and approved.
In Old Business,
President Demshar discussed the latest
developments of NEOAHA's Farm Tour, which
was rescheduled from March 28 to April 11.
Bill Rodgers announced that he has received
commitments for 45 participants at a cost of
$25 per ticket. Additionally, there is
strong interest among approximately 60 4H
members, who will be attending with their
own means of transportation. One bus has
been reserved, and NEOAHA members in
attendance are to fax the names of
additional participants to Bill Rodgers by
March 20so that President Demshar can
reserve a second bus by March 25.
Additionally, Bill Rodgers has furnished a
press release to Tom Zaffer, owner of A
Black Horse, a website popular among Arabian
aficionados. The Bus Tour Committee will
meet April 9 at 7 PM at Freedom Farm to
assemble favors to be distributed to
attendees on the tour. It has also been
decided that during the tour there will be a
narrative describing the four facilities to
be visited: Shafer Arabians in West
Farmingtron, Stachowski Farms in Mantua,
Cleveland Equine Clinic in Ravenna, and
Freedom Farms in Ravenna. Attendees are to
meet at Freedom Farms at 3898 Dawley Road in
Ravenna. Free coffee and donuts will be
available at 9 AM. At 9:30 AM attendees will
board the bus and depart with the program
ending at approximately 4 PM. Stachowshi
Farms will provide lunch, and Freedom Farm,
the last point of the tour, will supply wine
and hors d'oevre. For more information,
please contact Bill Rodgers at 330-296-5840
or
Rodgerslimited@aol.com or
fax330-296-6311. This is a rare opportunity
to visit premier equine facilities in
northeast Ohio.
The second item
in Old Business was the Champagne Classic.
Lorraine Linton reported that our show is
now COSCA-approved. NEOAHA members will be
able to use the Gatekeeper software
to record data regarding show entries and
exhibitors. This software has been used in
recent years at the Champagne Classic with
great success.
Further
discussion on the progress of the NEOAHA
show at Sunbeau Valley Farm in Ravenna,
Ohio, will continue on April 9,2009, at 7 PM
at Freedom Farm.
The third item
in Old Business was a reminder that the
annual Four County Tack Swap will take place
at the Randolph Fair Grounds (Headquarters
of the Portage County Fair) on May 2. There
is a need for two lightweight tables to fill
the 10x10 space. The time will be 9AM-2PM.
Remember that NEOAHA can sell your clean
used tack (in good condition, please) for a
10% commission on the selling price. Do you
have tack in good condition that you would
like to sell? Contact NEOAHA officers or
bring your items to the April 9 meeting.
In New Business,
President Demshar discussed a club trailride
for Saturday, April 26, at the Chagrin Polo
Fields in Cuyahoga County. Meeting time is
11 AM . Bring your lunch and beverage for a
shared club social time after the ride. The
Polo Fields should be beautiful, green, and
still fly-free on April 26--the perfect time
for a ride! Come join us for a little bit
of Heaven!
Also in New
Business, Judy Von Duyke suggested a visit
to the Hossfeld Carriage Museum in
Strongsville in Cuyahoga County. Those in
attendance quickly decided that early fall,
when show season is winding down, will be a
perfect time and venue. Possible dates are
September 11-13, September 26, and October
11. Judy will check on the availability of
the museum on these proposed dates and
report back to us at the next meeting, April
9.
Although Debby
McLaughlin moved and Ellen Pridemore
seconded to end the meeting officially at
9:38, most of the attendees were in a
fun-loving mood and stayed later to enjoy
conversation and lots of levity. Most
lingered till about 10 AM. Outside the
weather was still clear and pleasant, a
welcome diversion from the long, tedious
winter of 2009.
Bring on the
spring, the shows, and the rides! Welcome
at last to Horse Season, 2009!

The chestnut victor stands quietly in the
Winners' Circle at Northfield Park on the
evening of December 6, 2008, flanked by NEOAHA
officers and members in attendance at the annual
Christmas Party. As usual, the snow was not for
the wimpy. Happy New Year from all of us at
NEOAHA!
